Century Tree Plaque

Century Tree Plaque

As a recognition that the work of the Lethbridge Research Centre builds on research and knowledge of the past century and that the work done by those in the past is a legacy, on the hundredth anniversary of the Research Centre a Centennial Tree, a clone of the Fairfield Poplar, was planted. The monument is also a promise for what the Research Centennial will achieve for the land and the people in the next century. Monument was placed in 2006.

This portion of the Irrigation Monument sits in the Arch. The main piece of sculpture under the Arch symbolizes te mountains from which comes the irrigation water and from which also comes the water to fill the reservoir at its base. From the reservoir, the water flows through a spillway into a lower basin containing canals, ditches and fields.

LRC Millennium Arboretum

LRC Millennium Arboretum

Recognizing the role William Fairfield had in helping to transform the prairies with trees, the Lethbridge Research Centre developped the arboretum in 2000 and planted it with hardy prairie trees. Some of the trees are associated with specific people and/or events.

NWMP and Ranching

NWMP and Ranching

The NWMP and Ranching panel highlights the role that many ex-NWMP played in the ranching industry. At the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th, numerous ranches, some very large, could be found across southern Alberta from BC to Saskatchewan.
